In these times, you might\nbe apprehensive about visiting your dentist for emergency care. Did you know,\nhowever, that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deandentalcare.com\/preventive-dentistry.html\">dental\npractices<\/a> are some of the cleanest places in the whole country? This is\nbecause they follow strict protocols set by the Centers for Disease Control and\nPrevention (CDC). Keep reading to learn some of these guidelines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hand Hygiene <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Maintaining clean hands is the most important way for dental\nprofessionals to prevent the spread of germs. Your dentist will make sure to\nwash their hands in these situations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>When their hands are visibly soiled <\/li><li>After touching instruments barehanded that are likely\nto be contaminated by bodily fluids like blood or saliva <\/li><li>Before and after treating each patient <\/li><li>Before putting on gloves and immediately after\ntaking gloves off <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Your dentist and their staff will use soap and water to wash\ntheir hands if bodily fluids have been involved. In other situations, they may\nsimply apply an alcohol-based hand rub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Personal Protective Equipment <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Personal protective equipment (PPE) refers to wearable\nequipment that protects dental professionals from contact with infectious\ngerms. Examples of PPE include masks, gloves, eye protection, and protective\nclothing. The entire staff of your dentist\u2019s office will be properly educated\non how to wear these items and how they stop the spread of germs. They will replace\ngloves after every patient to prevent one patient\u2019s germs from being spread to\nanother, and perform proper hand hygiene after removing the gloves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Respiratory Hygiene <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Also known as cough etiquette, respiratory hygiene is\ndesigned to limit the spread of germs in droplets produced when someone coughs,\nsneezes, or even exhales. Your dentist should post a sign near the front of\ntheir office with suggestions for patients to cover their mouth when coughing\nor sneezing. Make sure to use your elbow and not your hand, as that could\nspread germs when you touch something. Your dentist may also offer masks to any\npatients with a cough or other coronavirus-like symptoms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rest assured that your dentist follows all of these\nCDC-mandated protocols and more to a T. Your dental team cares about your\nsafety more than anything, which is why they\u2019re doing their part to slow the\nspread of the virus and other germs at all times.
